When: December 2, 2022
After doing a critique at MIAD, my class was separated into groups to tour the campus (while learning about some of the workshops/services they provide as well). While this tour was short in time, being able to see at least three departments of the campus was exciting for me. My group was able to view the printmaking lab, wood-shop/3-D, graphic (communication) and product design, as well as illustration. I was most interested in the graphic design department of the tour, being able to see where that department would lead me to in terms of schooling made it very interesting for me. Both illustration and graphic design are something I am currently very interested in, so seeing what that would entail (in terms of pieces) made me more inclined to research more about those specific departments.
While in the printmaking lab our tour guide was explaining the different tools that are available to students. One thing that interested me about MIAD is their class/lecture size. Our guide explained how MIAD class sizes have a max of around only 20 people. This allows the students to have a better connection with the professors while receiving more personal feedback on their own works. This is something that is different than other colleges and something that makes me enjoy MIAD very much.

In the graphic design department our tour guide was explaining how they call it "communication design" due to the fact that both concepts go hand and hand together. Our guide also explained how their illustration department is very similar to the graphic design department. This is due to the fact that they tend to overlap in many different categories. MIAD's overall design departments was very intriguing to me and being able to see them while getting a somewhat brief explanation was enjoyable.
Overall, while the tour at MIAD was brief it made me more interested in MIAD as a potential school for me. It was my first experience/tour at an all art college and that made me more motivated/excited to look into other art colleges that could be a good fit for me and my possible future career choices.
