I entered this competition at the beginning of April 2023. I was excited since this was one of the first 'official' competitions I had entered as of recently and being able to experience this was something I found very motivating. The competition itself could be any piece of art as long as the artist applies a theme to it, my pieces theme was childhood and how fragile it is to time.
Work Description
Popped Past is an acrylic painting made on a hand stretched canvas. I wanted this piece to emulate things from my childhood, while also being able to reflect others. Each person's childhood experience can be something different, both good and bad and while on the cusp of growing up I wanted to memorialize it. All of the items in my painting have some sort of significance, whether it be an obscure memory or something I still hold dear. While I hold these objects dear I had also wanted my piece to reflect love, so I had added things mentioned by those close to me. During COVID I felt almost stuck in time, but now it feels like time is going by so quickly that I am not able to preserve anything to memory. It is sometimes hard for me to grasp that I am almost an adult, and this work was a way for me to remember all of the things that made my childhood unique. While also expressing how fragile those memories are. |
